Washington Department of Ecology Shoreline Aerial Photos PDF Print E-mail

If you sling flies on a salt water beach in the state of Washington; you'd be remiss not to have the State of Washington Department of Ecology Aerial Photos website in your back pocket.

Browsing through the photos via their interactive shoreline representation will give you a bird's eye view of what the beach you're about to hit up looks like. Seeing the beach from above helps you understand the structure and layout of the land. When you can understand this; you understand where the fish are going to hold.

Keep in mind, while checking this site out, you'll want to orient yourself to which way the tide will flow at the time you'll be fishing the beach. This is important because some beaches will have great structure on an flood tide and nothing on an ebb - or vice versa.

Check it out here.

  • Casting Techniques and Styles
  • Stream-side Conservation
  • Fly Tying
  • Etymology
  • Fly Fishing-related Watercraft

  • Fishing Techniques for Specific Locations
  • Fishing Techniques for Specific Species
T he following formats are desired: written article, short video clips, podcasts, topical blog, short tips & tricks (see section on site).

Previously published works are welcome as long as another entity does not own the rights to them (that would be bad).

Unfortunately, your only compensation will be an internet smiley and a nice email expressing thankfulness and gratitude. Plus, you will be rewarded with the knowledge that you are positively impacting a community (fly fisherman and women) by increasing the general level of knowledge in sharing the lessons you've learned throughout your time behind a fly rod. And of course, you'll receive full credit on the site. And some sweet decals.

Rubber Soled Wading Boots PDF Print E-mail

It looks like felt will be staying shore-side soon - for permanent. I know that when I have used rubber soled wading boots I haven't always felt the safest (no pun intended). Felt just seems to grab even the slimiest rock and hold on. What do you think? Are you willing to switch to rubber for good? Have you tried any of the new rubber soled wading boots on the market now?

An excerpt from a recent newsletter from the Gig Harbor Fly Shop:

Fly Fishing Film Tour Coming to Gig Harbor!
March 18 th @ the Gig Harbor Uptown Galaxy Theater (21 and older) we are hosting the Fly Fishing Film Tour. The film tour was in Seattle last week and they had over 250 people there and had a blast. This will be your last Northwest opportunity to see the film tour. We figured since we know how to have a good time, we'd host it in Gig Harbor! Our friends from 7 Seas Brewing, right here in Gig Harbor, will be supplying the beer. It will be a great night and we'll have some sweet deals too! Tickets available now! $12 at the Gig Harbor Fly Shop or $15 online.
This should be a blast - if I were in town I would be there.
