I recently had the opportunity to take a buddy to fish the Yakima, for the first time. Not only was it his first time to fish the Yak, but this was his first time fishing anything larger than a few small ponds.

It was like taking a kid to Disneyland. I had just as much fun watching him have fun as he had fishing. The weather was perfect, a little overcast with temperatures in the high 60s. A slight breeze kept us cool and the sunset was a joy to watch at the end of the day.
We saw some wildlife, caught some fish, laughed a lot and generally had a great time.
The water clarity was about 3-4 feet, the level a bit higher than summer however it was certainly fishable. All the fish we picked up were hanging out near seams. The majority of the day was spent tossing a variety of nymphs & stoneflys; Hare's Ear, WD-40, Prince's, Kaufmann's, etc. We did see a handful of Skwala's along the shoreline as well.
There wasn't too much surface activity, we saw the occasional riser and no major hatches were observed. The water temperature was fairly cold, Keechelus Lake still has ice on it.
